IMO you're right that you should just focus on healing yourself. Generally speaking, children do not *mess up the lives* of their parents. One of the big tasks to resolve adolescence (which usually occurs sometime in one's late twenties) is the realization that your parents are just people separate from their roles as parents. With this we usually real-eyes that alot of the things we thought we were responsible for vis-a-vis our parents, and alot of *issues* that we thought were about us, really had much more to do with who our parents were as people; as human beings, warts and all, and not because they happen to be *our* parents.

Ask yourself why you felt it necessary to make that comment. It's a great opportunity for self examination.
