Selassielive: Black businesses on MLK Day

Let me ask you this:

MLK Day (Jan. 19th) is a "National Holiday". Federal offices and banks will be closed in observance. There is debate amongst ones in my area on this topic.

Do you feel that it is appropriate for 'black' businesses to remain open?

Shouldn't black businesses be open so that those who are off can consciously and intentionally patronize black-owned establishments? (as they should anyway but especially in observance of the significance of the holiday)

I feel that days that are associated with ANYTHING black (like MLK Day, Juneteenth, October 16th Day of Atonement, Kwanzaa would be ideal times for black businesses to 'represent'.

I ask yours (and anyone else's opinion) but I am particularly curious about the attitude in DC.

BTW, blacks will miss a lot of work that week because they are taking King Day (Monday) off and Inauguration Day (Tuesday) off also, LOL.

BTW2, watch how they will be able to count how many people are in the Mall for this one, whereas they conveniently couldn't figure out how many were there for the Million Man March.
