Title: Africa wants 2 permanent seats on Security Council Post by: Ayinde on September 24, 2004, 08:40:27 AM Africa wants at least two permanent seats and two additional non-permanent seats on the UN Security Council, Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade told world leaders on Thursday.
"The world, now more than ever, needs a strong United Nations with reinforced legitimacy," Wade told the 59th session of the UN General Assembly. African nations would decide which countries would be awarded the new seats, he added. "Nigeria, and indeed Africa, holds the view that the Security Council should be expanded in the permanent and non-permanent categories to make it more representative, effective and acceptable," he said. He expressed his strong belief that Nigeria "is a well qualified candidate" for a permanent seat on the Security Council. I do not know though if the U.N. will ever live up to the facade of propaganda that covers it, championing it as a mouthpiece for international human rights. It's very location in the seat of the Empire State should immediately set off warning bells in the minds of those who believe this is some kind of objective organization.
The conditions that led to the formation of the U.N.(and the other "international organizations" - I.M.F., World Bank, etc.) and the state of the world which beckoned its inception, who was in the drivers seat, etc. should be a good indication of the purpose for which it was set up. |
