Title: CLAIM vs. FACT : Bush's Speech in London Today
Post by: Ayinde on November 19, 2003, 01:08:41 PM
CLAIM: "The tradition of free speech exercised with enthusiasm is alive and well here in London. We have that at home too. They now have that right in Baghdad as well."
- President Bush, 11/19/03 (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,103514,00.html)

FACT: "As criticism of his authority appeared in Iraqi media, occupying authority chief L. Paul Bremer III placed controls on Iraqi Media Network content and clamped down on the independent media in Iraq, closing down some Iraqi-run newspapers and radio and television stations."
- American Prospect, 10/1/03 (http://www.prospect.org/print/V14/9/gourevitch-a.html)

FACT: "American soldiers handcuffed and firmly wrapped masking tape around an Iraqi man's mouth after they arrested him for speaking out against occupation troops. Asked why the man had been arrested and put into the back of a Humvee vehicle on Tahrir Square, the commanding officer told Reuters at the scene: 'This man has been detained for making anti-coalition statements.' He refused to say what the man said."
- Reuters, 11/11/03 (http://www.reuters.co.uk/newsPackageArticle.jhtml?type=topNews&storyID=401926&section=news)

FACT: The British government is spending $9 million to keep Bush away from protestors.
- Washington Post, 11/19/03 (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A59315-2003Nov18.html)

I'd think that this kind of information would be kept quiet. I'm still investigating how the facts/truth about the governments corruption gets out to the public. There must be standard covert communications networks between insiders and reporters.

Don't be amazed most American citizens are dithering idiots. Your government gets away with all the stuff it does. The american citizens do not think beyond what they are told for exactly 60 seconds on the news. The government know if they say something long enough, it automatically becomes truth! And anyone who would question it is simply unpatriotic!

Its questionable whether there's ever been an American nation to be patriotic about considering the nation's history and foundation.

Some of Bush's speech that he keeps repeating just sounds ridiculous instead of becoming to truth over time. Like the reasoning for colonizing Iraq being to give Iraqis their freedom, in the name of general freedom in the world. American citizens as a whole in their years of education were never taught to think outside the box, to think critically, or to utitize their creative and rational intelligence. Its no wonder if folks don't question the garbage coming from the administration. Another problem is that citizens are fatigued and run down by work and commuting and daily chores in this over-burdening 8 to 6 standard work schedule that it uses up the mental energy necessary for exercising the mind outside the box.
