Title: The Age of Darkness
Post by: Bennu Ausar on November 06, 2005, 11:10:06 PM
Peace,
According to the Mahabharata which was composed by the indigenous population of Indus Kush (pre-vedic Black India), we are currently living in the 432,000 year cycle of Kali Yuga or "The Age of Darkness". This epoch represents only one of four cycles that the earth undergoes as part of the overall cycle of existence. The first minor cycle, Krita Yuga (lasting 1,728,000 years) being the "golden age", Treta Yuga (lasting  1,296,000 years) being the "age of purity" but less perfect than the first, and Dwapara Yuga (lasting 864,000 years) showing a gradual decline in harmonic existence and the emergence of conflicts which pits good vs. evil. The following excerpt from the Mahabharata (I think) indicates that the ancients were aware of these cycles listed above even when they were at the pinnacle of human co-existence and spiritual enlightenment, and offers us a brief glimpse into our present and future conditions...

"The barbarians will be masters of the banks of the Indus.... There will be contemporary monarchs reigning over the earth, kings of churlish spirit, violent temper, and ever addicted to falsehood and wickedness. They will inflict death on women, children, and cows; they will seize upon the property of their subjects, and be intent upon the wives of others; they will be of unlimited power, their lives will be short, their desires insatiable... People of various countries intermingling with them, will follow their example, and the barbarians being powerful in the patronage of their princes while the purer tribes of the earth are neglected... Wealth [spiritual] and piety will decrease until the world will be wholly depraved. Property alone will confer rank; wealth [material] will be the only source of devotion; passion will be the sole bond of union between the sexes; falsehood will be the only means of success in litigation; and women will be objects merely of sensual gratification.... Thus in the Kali age will decay constantly proceed, until the human race approaches its annihilation... When the close of the Kali age shall be nigh, a portion of that divine being which exists, of its own spiritual nature shall descend on earth... [They] will re-establish righteousness on earth..."

Though many western historians list the Mahabharata and the Puranas of ancient India to be as recent as 300BCE or even 400AD (placing it well within the authority of the Indo-European/Aryan), many Indian historians themselves place the creation of these important documents at closer to 5000BCE (well before the date of the Aryan invasion).
