Title: African Genius!
Post by: indomitablespirit on May 07, 2009, 02:51:39 PM
Well, I've heard that you're born as a genius
and you're a slacker by choice,
and when your back's against the wall
you must learn to crawl above all negativity
and bogus philosophy about your African ancestry.

See, the lies the world told me
about being an African brother, or sister,
or mother, or father, or lover, or friend is:
you lack the mettle to defend self and race
from racial disgrace and a hypocritical embrace
by those who claim to love you
more than their own two-faced,
backstabbing race.

Have I acted like a genius
with a serious case of belief in self
and African self worth and wealth?

                 YES!

Have I tried to crawl above the
slacker anthem and prove them wrong
when they said that in the White House
a black man does'nt belong?

             YES!

And, have I dispelled all lies
and RIPPED off all pretensive disguise
from this face you told me was'nt beautiful?
From these hands you told me could'nt write
to save the lives of those who looked just like me?
From these lips you said were too thick
to smile for a while when I'm satisfied
with my self image and my thick, African Size?
Or from the mind you informed
could'nt form large thoughts
or creatively reflect on a way forward
from the backward mentality of slavery?

Thank God I have, thank God I have,
and thank God I have moved on
beyond the grave you dug for me
to be buried among those who died
when you stifled their African pride.

In spirit they would rise.
In spirit they would rise.
In spirit they would rise among
Africans willing to fight
for African pride, racial justice, and equality.
Yes, in spirit, they would rise to be
an African Genius like me.
