Re: Change...What Change???
In Response To: Re: Change...What Change??? ()

I second disciple on the mixed race/light skinned/colourism subject. You are misconstruing the sites anaysis & focus. Saying white folks don't care about colour/shade isn't accurate whatsoever. It denies light skinned privilege under white patriarchal supremacy. What is white supremacy but phenotype and colour priviledge? His phenotype and colour is not-as-threatenning to the white populous. Yes light skinned Africans experience racism, and European culture is on the far end of exclusive... but to compare it 'as equal' to the experiences of the dark skinned, phenotypically Bantu African masses(womb-man in particualr) is just a denial of reality.

Just as an FYI, I'm light skinned/mixed race and would have to be completely sticking my head in the sand to not notice a grand difference between the way I am treated by Euros(and everyone else) in comparrison to the dark Bantu phenotype.

White folks are as unaware of their individual or systemic colourism as they are unaware of their individual or systematic racism.

It's not about excluding mixed-race/light skinned Africans from the African community, but much more about destroying the priviledge(in greater society and intra-community), which causes an automatic lack of opportunity for equally qualified Dark skinned Bantu phenotyped Africans who are the overwhelming majority.

Honestly, the fact that you hilight the fact that there were many light dkinned/mixed race freedom fighters kinda proves the point. How many darker skinned African phenotyped people who were equally as qualified to 'lead' were passed over(via by individual/mass choice or systemic opprotunity) for those in the numerically smaller light group to 'rise to the top'? The imbalance in the numbers and global geo-politics of colourism speak for themselves.

***And where is the harm to allow people to feel good about themslves and be boosted by it. If it does some good that way it is a great thing.

Mental health is a huge issue, when you are always bombarded by images and media portraying yourself and your people in the negative, it is important you have an opportunity to do the reverse for a change!

White people do that all the time! Have flag waving/aren't we all great/look at what we have achieved/ moments. And it does the trick to boost moral and provoke ambition and unify them.
From that persepctive you can't criticise people if cheering and crying for Obama in turn has some positive influence and repercussions.***

So valuing the same things as the imperialist white supremacist paradigm is a 'possitive'? Being the 'head of empire' is a 'good thing'? We need our moral boosted by being the top figurehead of this 'oppressive system'... IMO all that does is further confuse the masses.
