Title: Mummification: Kemet, Incas....why mummify?
Post by: Iniko Ujaama on January 12, 2008, 01:10:32 PM
Greetings
I was wondering...Why did the people of Kemet mummify their dead or atleast some of their dead? What was the difference between mummification among the people of Kemet and of the Inca.
What lesson or insight if any is there in the practice of mummification?
Any thoughts? Any useful sources?

Some sources and scholars maintain that the art of mummification as practiced by the Olmec and Inca peoples was imported by travelers and refugees from Africa.
They came before Columbus, by Ivan Van Sertima, is revealing in this context.

As to your first and original question...

...Why did the people of Kemet mummify their dead or at least some of their dead?

I do not know.
