I received Vol 1 (off an Ebay buy), I'm getting my own copy of Vol 2 (I've read part of a friends), and Vol 3 is coming with it.  It's really a good series in its range of cultures and topics.  It truly begins with the beginning of this planet and runs on through the modern age.  I haven't read much of it though, so I probably couldn't give a good review on this for about another 8-12 months when I've tred through the roughly 1500 total pages.  But from what I have read, it's been pretty thought provoking and interesting.

Anyone else familiar with this work?  Any opinions on it?
