Rastafari Movement to contest next election (St. Kitts)

Rastafari Movement to contest next General Election
By Stanford Conway

! BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Rastafari Movement in St. Kitts and Nevis will be contesting the upcoming General Election and a spokesperson indicated that the party’s theme for the political campaign would be “Reparation and Unification”.
“The Rastafari Movement will be launching a political party to contest the next General Election and our party is all inclusive; we do not deal with exclusivity. Our theme will be ‘Reparation and Unification’…we want all of our people to come together as one unit, because in this age of globalisation we cannot exist as a single entity, just St. Kitts and Nevis,” Ras Kalonji said.

The dreadlocks businessman said his party wants to see all of CARICOM states as well as St. Thomas and St. Croix, among others, coming together: “Black people in general must to come together, because that is the only way we can survive as a people in this 21st Century, the new millennium. We cannot survive as different entities because all of us can see what is happening in the world today because of globalisation.”
He added that if one were to critically examine what is currently happening in the world, one would conclude that African people have to come together. “I am talking about those on the continent, those in North and South America and we in the Caribbean. We have to form a block and, when it is formed, we would have created a market for millions of people to trade with each other.”
Ras Kalonji declared that in contesting the upcoming General Election, the Rastafari Movement wants to set the example of togetherness in St. Kitts and Nevis so that others would follow and know that unity is the only solution.

“Unity, unification and Pan African unity is the only solution for African people in the 21st Century. As long as the other political parties are not teaching that, we are not going to survive as a people because the divide and conquer thing cannot work anymore,” Ras Kalonji posited.

He strongly believes in the teachings and concepts of the Rastafari Movement, noting when they speak of Rasta “we are speaking of ideas that could benefit the masses of our people, because, in fact, all of our people are Rastas but it is just that they don’t know it. They are not conscious of being Rastas…as long as you are a black man you are a Rasta!”

Asked what his political party can do for the country, Ras Kalonji smilingly replied, “Granny is very wise and knowledgeable and she told us that the ship is off course and the only solution to get it back on course is Rastafari, its ideology and its ideas that are unifying and uplifting and that could help our economy to build as one unit.”

Ras Kalonji was very tight-lipped in divulging the name under which his intended political party will be known. He however stated “it will be known at the right time”.
He concluded the brief exclusive interview by saying, “We shall be a political party with a difference. We shall not be dealing with divisiveness, mudslinging, calling of names and character assassination but just togetherness as a people, and we could trample Babylon system. We believe in this because we are in the process of coming out of   neocolonialism going right into liberation.”
