A Sad Day for Africa
by
Golden Gadzirayi Nyambuya
21 September 2008

A great and esteemed son of Africa has fallen,
He dared to reach the impossible dream,
He believed in the renaissance of the African soul,
His fall is my fall too,
It is a fall not only for the great man but of Africa and African-ness,
You made us feel good to be African, what remains now?
My heart is completely asunder and I am in a state of mourning,
Africa! Africa!! Africa! why! why!! why! do you devour your own kind.
But what have we to say, the "people have spoken".
This is the democracy our forefathers fought and died for.
Go well Mr President,
You remain an irreplaceable icon of leadership,
Second to none in this modern age African-ness -- you are great.
Greater than he esteemed to be greater than us all.
After you are gone, without notice darkness shall suddenly and soon,
Befall Africa at noon from Cape to Cario,
And the face of Africa tremors with quakes never seen before,
They will say, sure, this man was African.

This is the sickness we have to permanently get rid of. Though it's a process but it needs to be eliminated.
