I stuck my nose in on this thread because of Sis Rosalind's response on the history of photography for 1 reason.
Subsequently I went off a on little journey of discovery of my own and have learned much.
Perhaps it is possible to conclude that the saying "etched on the mind" comes out of this era of illustrative "technology", the illustrative art of engraving for publication of books magazines,and newspapers. This was used prior to photo photography.
"Etched on the mind" as a state of consciousness and awareness is one which really needs no further input or verification, as we are visual beings. This is why I DELIBERATELY did not post an optional "link".
