most of the problem has to do with the means of acquiring it. the method whereby farmers cut their food production worldwide to start growing bio-fuels is ridiculous - this is a symptom of the globalized economy though where it is set up where only a few people benefit. the issue of locally produced bio-fuel is different if done correctly as it is not dependent on the globalized model and serves local needs.
we need to separate what is wrong with biofuels in particular - i.e. does it work as well as petroleum based fuels vs. what are the issues with the global economy whereby biofuels are produced in a globalized fashion like many other goods and the issues involved with that.
its like organic food. it is a good idea - but turning third world countries turned into plantations where organic food is grown for the wealthy in first world countries as the current economic model may deem "efficient" is wrong.
