“In all fairness, there is dual Reasoning happening in this thread. The reason why I felt I wanted to comment on the title issue is because in a report that is meant to show how we are still being oppressed due to our colour, through miscommunication we are still painted as the wrongdoers.”
There has never been a perfect report about Blacks so this one is not new. There has always been a dual reasoning (and more) when the issue of colourism comes up. There is always the issue of the Europeans preference for lighter shades and what Blacks have internalized.
Neither the title of the report nor the report itself paints any group of people as the wrongdoers. The title of the report that is to the top of the body of the post is: “Skin tone more important than educational background for African Americans seeking jobs.” You may be interpreting this headline one way and some of us, me included, interpret the headline another way.
There are two questions in the debate given that the article does not point fingers at any one group in society:
Do Whites show preferences for lighter shades of Blacks?
Have Blacks also internalized these false values and show preferences for lighter shades?
The answer to both is yes.
