Religions are handed down in most cases. If your family is Southern Baptist then more than likely you will be Southern Baptist until that brave day you decide to rebel. But are you truly embracing new beliefs or playing it safe? Let me explain. Your newfound quest may be to be more afrocentric, so let's say you become a rasta. Now based on your upbringing to change one's religion is an abomination and secretly you have personal reservations, so you experiment with rastafari because it is similar to christianity. You have now done your self justice by killing two birds with one stone. You have quenched your afrocentric urge and safeguarded your hand me down religion. But have you truly embraced new ideas? Hell no, your just playing it safe. Afraid of the unknown and loyal to that handed down religion.
This post was inspired by a friend who visits the poetry circuit reading mystical works of freedom, and african based belief systems. But when prompted, she will proudly declare that she is a conscience christian as if placing conscience in front of christian makes her more enlightened than other christians. It is still christianity. The same religion that was spoonfed to our ancestors. The same belief system with its unrealistic rules and regulations. The same ideals that enslaved a beautiful people. The same system that governs the united states.

The problem with modern blacks Africans is that they are still looking outside of themselves to find "God" that does not represent them spiritually. They intentionally continue to practice and believe the Conquers LIES, so of course the modern black Africans themselves crush our original African spirituality, and our indigenous ways of veneration... indorsing double standards and/or narrow-mindedness characteristic of the Conquers culture.

We should first show solidarity with each other. We are Africans. We are black. Our first priority is ourselves.

"Traditional" animist religions are usually closer to scientific truth about the nature of the universe than the messianic mystic religions of the middle east. Two animist philisophical and spiritual systems still strong today are taoism from China and shintoism from Japan, mainly because those societies have not been completely overrrun by cultural imperialism of Europeans.
Many if not most animist religions or philosophies are proto-scientific and seek to discover the world based on observation, while the mind control mechanisms we know as the "great religions" offer mostly "belief" based on miraculous events and demand absolute obedience on pain of ostracizement, torture or death if the miracles are not believed.
A strong reasoning can be made that indeed, the "traditional" animist systems have far more in common with reality and spirit of discovery than the social control mechanisms called the world's "great religions".
It is interesting to note that ancient peoples who were animists, developed the arts, science, wiriting, architecture, etc, yet their accomplishments were intentionally destroyed from generally available records and horded by the mind control mechanisms of "great religion" at a fantastic negative cost to human civilization.
One suspects that Africa will gradually evolve from this overlayment into an exciting new area of cultural preservation and new/old spirituality, complimented by new information from science and history.
The tough part is in getting past the double think proposition that animism is "primitive", whereas the mystic messianic religions of the middle east, for example, are considered "civilized". Curious that these mind control devices actually have very ancient origins themselves and competed over the traditional forms at the behest of the state control mechanism. Thus the rehashed messiah legends repeated as a formula and the demise of spiritual free association that predominated in the ancient world.
The ancients were so much more advanced, often learning a number of different religions and philosophies to guide their lives by. Hopefully we don't take any one of them too seriously!
