http://discipleofthenile.wordpress.com/First of all, illusions work because we WANT them to. WE allow illusions to dictate our perceptions of Truth instead of allowing what we see to fit the Truth.
It’s a convoluted mindset of making the truth fit something instead of making something fit the truth.

So illusions are indeed truth, but illusions are truths that have been presented in order to cause us to allow our EGOS to interpret the message instead of our true essences. Now that would not be a problem if our egos were in check, but since it most likely is not, we tend to interpret messages on a physical/temporal level instead of a deeper, more meaningful and wholistic level.
So we must understand that just by the nature of allowing our egos to dictate our reality, it does so (very nobly, I must say) within IT’S perspective and it’s perspective is temporary (temporal) and physical. Thus is placates/appeases temporary and physical realms. No trick or lie or mystery whatsoever. The ego functions PRECISELY in the manner that we ask it to. But I digress… (another topic for another time)
Notice that the illusion that we see time and time again in movies is the one where a thirsty desert traveler sees what appears to be an oasis but turns out to only be a mirage. What the person actually sees is heat convection and sunlight reflected off of the desert surface. What the person WANTS to see is a pool of water. So there is no mystery why the person acts upon what their flesh WANTS and NEEDS and runs like a lunatic towards what appears to be their salvation.
And there is no mystery that everyday we are bombarded by other illusions that also hinge on our wanton and needful yearnings.
But wanton and needful yearnings are not the crime. As physical entities we MUST acquire and grasp shelter, food, water and companionship. And if any of those components are missing, we instinctively/divinely seek to fill that void. I refuse to sit here and say that coveting and yearning and wanting and needing are downfalls. Just like with our acceptance of illusions, the downfall is the object of the yearnings being dictated to us.
We are taught to seek out an aspirin instead of analyzing and addressing the cause of a headache. Some of us are taught to become KRST-like via recreational drugs instead of analyzing and addressing the lies of society that has us seeking such illusional/delusional “highness”.
WE ALL GET HIGH ON SOMETHING.
If we play close attention to our surroundings, we will see that we are submersed in a culture that provides only temporary pleasures (highs) yet cause continuous frustrations (addictions, withdrawal, obsession, dysfunction). We are having soda drugs (caffeine, sugar, salt) shoved down our throats which DO NOT quench our thirsts but actually causes us to require more Water, the same water that we instinctively were seeking but delusionally addressing in the first place. And because we require more Water, we want more soda, and on and on…(look up diabetes)
For us this is bad news. But for businesspeople, it is wonderful news. I have always ‘jokingly’ said that there is a 3 headed monster working against consumers/feeders: “Mickeys D’s” and Doctors and Pharmaceuticals. Well it’s not a joking matter.
They all work in harmony with each other. Mickey’s feeds us the chemicals that makes us sick…we subsequently go to the doctor…the first thing he/she does is prescribe some kind of medicine. In fact, doctors are hounded by pharmaceutical salespeople on a regular basis with free post-it pads, calendars, pens, clocks and travel incentives for prescription writing quotas.
Now we may think that these are evil or bad people but since they live in a capitalistic society, they MUST do whatever it takes to feed their families just like every other participant….again, we live in a culture that provides only temporary pleasures (paychecks/highs) yet cause continuous frustrations (denial, destruction, rat-race, family absence, stress, moral dilemmas, etc)
So the illusions of our society are self-perpetuating not because of active oppression. The illusions of our society are present because we have accepted society (with its already established racial, gender and class oppression/hierarchy) in the first place. Society indeed is a function of hierarchy. But hierarchy is inherently destructive because it must inevitably neglect or even abuse or destroy another because of nothing other than being different or de-powered. Hierarchy is but ab-usage of the Truth of numbers and unity (power) at the feeding/expense/sacrifice of those without apparent power.
In an hierarchy, the leader keeps his power by having EVERYONE else play for second-place. And the most effective illusions are the ones that give us notions of rising to the top.
The prudent seeking/yearning to rise to our spiritual magnificence is being used against us in an egotistical manner.
