Reuters in Yelwa
The Guardian

A Muslim community leader in the Nigerian town of Yelwa said yesterday that 630 bodies had been buried there after an attack by Christian militia on Sunday. The previous estimate of the death toll was 300.

Survivors of the attacks said many people were still missing and the final death toll could reach 1,000. Another 600 were said to be seriously wounded.

"We buried a total of 630 people yesterday, 1,500 people were injured and 600 were taken for emergency treatment," the community leader, Abdullahi Abdullahi, said.

There was no independent confirmation of the toll. Many residents fled Yelwa after the attack. www.guardian.co.uk

Toll 'hits 630' in Nigeria attack
A Muslim community leader in the Nigerian town of Yelwa says 630 corpses have been buried after an attack by Christian militia, and survivors says the final toll may reach 1000.

Police have spoken only of "hundreds" killed in the attack on Sunday, but access to the remote farming town has been very limited because of the threat of reprisals.

"We buried a total of 630 people yesterday, 1500 people were injured and 600 were taken for emergency treatment," said community leader Abd Allahi Abd Allahi. english.aljazeera.net

Greetings,
reading all of your posts has really put I in a state of amazement. A "Christian Militia" Cry something about that just doesen't seem right. While the world is focusing on this so-called "War on Terror " our brothers and sisters in Africa are being slaughtered in numerous measures. But, who cares about these blatant injustices, right? WRONG! Angry I'm speechless...... Cry

Is it even a word such as,
                                                         Peace

Tume Ahemba in Kano
The Guardian

Christians chased out of their homes by Muslims during three days of bloody riots in Nigeria's northern city of Kano fled the town on buses as tension mounted in the area.

Hundreds of people, mostly Christians, were burned and hacked to death by rioting Muslim mobs over two days this week in Kano in a reprisal for the killing of hundreds of Muslims in central Nigeria 10 days ago.

"People are saturated with fear, especially today being Friday, so they are leaving," said Adamson Gbangange, from Gombe in eastern Nigeria, as he boarded a bus heading east.

A reported 22,000 Christians sought refuge in police barracks across the city to escape rampaging youths armed with knives and petrol.

Nigeria's population of 130 million is roughly split between Muslims and Christians. At least 6,000 people have been killed in religious violence in northern Nigeria since democracy returned in 1999.
