Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) tour exposes ongoing South African oppression and poverty under Mbeki and Mandela; conditions for most South Africans today—“Worse than Apartheid!”

Mfanelo Skwatsha, Executive Secretary of the Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) of Azania (South Africa), will be a featured speaker at African People’s Solidarity Day events, October 13-21 in cities throughout the U.S.

During the PAC’s first U.S. tour in more than 25 years, Mr. Skwatsha will discuss the urgent need to build political and economic power for the growing millions of South Africans who have been pushed into greater poverty and oppression by the ruling African National Congress’ “Rainbow Nation.”

As Wendy Snyder, organizer of African People’s Solidarity Day, explains, “Many people around the world who supported the struggle against the apartheid system in South Africa erroneously believe that since the installation of Nelson Mandela and the African National Congress in 1994 conditions in South Africa have improved.

“However, as Mr. Skwatsha will show, the reality is the opposite. Many African workers say life in South Africa today is ‘worse than apartheid.’”

Statistics from the Southern African Regional Poverty Network (SARPN) expose that since the official end of apartheid in 1994, “those households living in poverty have sunk deeper into poverty and the gap between rich and poor has widened.”

Sixty-one percent of people in South Africa now live below the poverty line, with more than a third subsisting on less than $2 a day. The racial gap is greater with 96 percent of arable South African farmland still owned by white people who make up only 13 percent of the population.

Formed in Soweto, South Africa in 1959, the Pan Africanist Congress was the popular party that led the campaign to end the notorious pass laws that required African people to present official identification to police upon demand under the apartheid system. PAC led the South African-wide movement following the Sharpeville Massacre against pass law protestors in 1960 and is the party of Steve Biko, leader of the Black Consciousness Movement.

PAC is still based in African communities throughout South Africa today. PAC organizes on many fronts for “true self-determination for African working people with the belief that Africa’s colonial borders must be abandoned in favor of one united Africa,” according to Snyder.

Mfanelo Skwatsha has been a member of the Pan Africanist Congress for more than 20 years. He has been a leading member of the organization on regional and then national levels since his student days at the University of Transkei where he holds degrees in social science and labor law.

Sponsored by the African People’s Solidarity Committee and the Uhuru Movement, African People’s Solidarity Day events will take place:

October 13 – 14 in Oakland, CA at Beebe Memorial Church, 3900 Telegraph Avenue
October 16 in St. Petersburg, FL at The Studio@620, 620 1st Avenue South
October 20 – 21 in Philadelphia, PA at International House, 3701 Chestnut Street

It's un-believeable that Mandela & his successor, Mbeki, would broker such a deal with the White Racist establishment, especially at a time when angry BLACK citzens were up in arms & demanding "Majority RULE"... Apparently, such a DEAL only served TO (1) free MANDELA from PRISON, and (2) to PACIFY the NATIVES....

The RICH WHITE LAND-OWNERS, are still RICH, while those that they fed, clothed & housed, must now find food & shelter where-ever than can find it....

This sounds very much like AMERICA all over again... Those filthy rich land-owning Plantation-Owners, Corporations & Institutions continue to receive dividends on all that OLD MONEY (WEALTH) that they OBTAINED DURING SLAVERY, while the SLAVES they freed are now kept busy, fighting each-other for the BIGGER-AVAILABLE-CRUMBS...

The greatest difference between SLAVERY & the so-called Capitalistic FREEDOM is whether one works for free FOOD & SHELTER, with-out having to discharge any responsibilities for self & KIDS... Or, whether ONE schools himself to pick a JOB, so he can pay for his own FOOD & SHELTER... Usually these available JOBS leaves very little money after BILLS are paid, to spend frivolously...

Unless Of Course, ONE goes to the UNI, and obtains a DEGREE... Then he usually spends all his time & money, away from his/her Family & Friends, while chasing WHITE PRIVILEGE in hopes of blending-in with THEM...

That's why Pan-Africanst-Unity is so important... It eliminates the WHITE-MAN and his CONTROLLING TACTICS from the EQUATION, leaving an AFRICAN in-charge.... When we are in control of our own destiny, then we all WIN....

Can we please get some one from South AFRICA to come on here, and tell us this isn't happening like this in THEIR cOUNTRY?Huh  AND PLEASE ALSO EXPLAIN, WHY YOUR GOVERNMENT IS NOT AIDING MUGABE MORE??? Whether MUGABE is right, or wrong... He's still trying to wrestle all that LAND away from the WHITE LAND-OWNERS... His Country has the same problem that his neighbor, South Africa, has... But at least, he's trying to DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT....

Peace...

Meanwhile, i'll try to make one of those speaking engagements that you posted..

And thanks for the info...

Greetings to all

Will, this is in response to

With all due respect from SA...but
1. Why is "YOUR Government" and not BLACK leadership?
2. Mbeki is supporting, that's the reason why every second white person and black middle class are trying to get rid of him Angry
He might have flaws like any other leader, but without the support of his own "rival" MDC, how do you think he'll stay in power when "YOUR Government" (Bush) is trying to push sanctions on Zim...

3. I'm in full support of Mugabe, whether right or wrong - he is one leader that all African leaders should learn from...
4. ANC need to uphold white supremacy therefore most black people still live below poverty line
5. The whites still own the all banks, one way to uphold white supremacy
6. I wish PAC came into power instead ANC, they are the reason why we still suffer

So what do you suggest we do about the situation? Much as we are the majority in numbers, we are still the minority socially, economically and politically - even with a black government.

Peace to all!
