The people who are well known as Maroons are really the Coromantees people who were abducted from the area which was once called the British Gold Coast, but which was later change to Ghana by the following generations of African people in the year 1957 when independence was achieved from brute Britian. Most of these Coromantee people were taken to Spain as early as 1441, and there were so many thousands of them in Spain, and they would often escaped into the hills, and as a result the name Cimaron was imposed upon them by the Spanish people, and that word Cimaron is translated to mean wild.

Well, Christopher Columbus was born in 1451 in Genoa Italy and since he grow up as a thief, when he became a grown man he continued in that profession until in the year 1492 he invaded and captured Jamaica on behalf of his boss the King of Spain. The King of Spain then told the Spaniards, that they could go to Jamaica, and
capture any amount of land that they wanted, and that they could also use the Arawak Indians as their slaves.

Now the Spanish people already had African people as slaves who they called the Cimarons,so when they decided to leave for Jamaica, they gather up all their possessions including their African slaves and sailed away to Jamaica. So these west African people lived there with Spanish people as slaves for hundreds of years until the British invaded and captured Jamaica in the year 1655. So, the British translated the name Cimaron to mean Maroon, which really mean to marooned or to be abandoned and from then on, these Coromantee people from Ghana was called the Maroons.

After the invation of Jamaica by the British, the Spanish people resisted with the support their slaves but finally had to escape to Cuba, leaving their slaves to continue the resistance. Now these people who were called the Maroons, punished the british with their resistance of hyde and seek warfare which consisted of ambushes, they did not fight a face to face war with the British, instead they plague them with ambushes until they became afraid of the Maroons
and then called upon their King in England begng for help.

They were then instructed to sign a peace Treaty with the Maroons which they did in the year 1739 when Captain Guthrie and Captain Cudjoe met under a Mango Tree. One history said that they exchange hats. The clauses of the agreement called for the Maroons to be given 15,000 of land and that they should govern themselves without being molested by the British tyrants. They wer to be allowed to do their own hunting, fishing and plant their own food unmolested. The British then suggested that they should pay taxes on the land to which they disagreed, stating that they were living on the land for hundreds of years before the British invaded Jamaica. The British then suggested that since they refused to pay taxes on the land, then if any of their own African people who were slaves on the plantations, escape to the Maroon villages, then the maroons should take them back to the plantation for a reward, and amazingly the Maroons agreed to this betrayal of their own African people.

One of the clause in the peace agreement said that the British should stop from making efforts to enslave the Maroons, but in this agreement to take back slaves to the plantations, the
Marrons are really helping the British to enslave their own people. It is full time for those African people who called themselves Maroons to abandon that name which is so stained with betrayal, they must now take on their original tribal name which is the Coromantees and restore their African cultural dignity. To return their own people to the slave masters after they had escape was a serious betrayal and the first step to correcting it is to admit that a mistake was made. Change the name from Maroon town to Coromantee town or Village, where ever the name Maroon is used change it to Coromantees. Cudjoe is dead and gone, but you are the following generation who are living with this this stained Maroon name of betrayal. Be courageous, be bold, be strong and make the change, your African people will help you in this task. It is needed in order to restore the dignity of your people.

Gold Coast was changed to Ghana, Roadishia was change to Zimbabwe, and so many changes were made in Mama Africa in order to remove those slave trading names which were imposed upon our continent and our people, grab some courage and more forward and restore our Ancient original land marks, for thAT is the duty of the following generation, to correct the mistakes which were made by our African Ancesters.
