Over 200 Brave Years (1.1.03)

The New Year arrives just for the giants
And thousands of butterflies are uniting at the festival
They bring with them tears of joy
Ah, no one is lonely tonight!
‘Cause we told them many tales of the past
And I hope you too are going to like this tale and make it last
So please get ready, and let me begin.
There is a far away place where only warriors live.
One time in Dahomey, they were so happy
Until they were tricked onto new grounds
And since then, they began to fight to stay alive
They fought thunder
And exchanged blows with the harsh rain
They fought heavy storms
And many beasts and thieves
They gave death to traitors and strangers
And their only friends were the Voodoo drums and the sun
Until Boukman handed them the blood
They sipped every sip as if it was wine
Tears of joy run down my face
‘Cause the giants stepped forward and picked up their swords
O friends, the strangers’ bullets were flying like dust
And there was no place on earth for fear in the giants’ hearts
So they buried it under the earth, next to the moon
And the moon became their only eyewitness!
It too became like a slave
And the trees rose tall like the giants
They called upon our twin gods for peace
O. Friends, this is not the end...
The whole world was so glad
To see us fast near the cross for two hundreds of years
By God, my friends!
This is our reason for being here
Yes! We are the first on this side of the globe
To celebrate 200 years of liberty
This land is our Holy Land!
Haiti is our Holy Land!
