On May 22nd the Uhuru Movement will be hosting a cultural show entitled The "Black and Proud" Show: Where "Liberation Meets Culture”
at the auditorium of the Carlos Rosario Charter School located in Northwest, Washington DC. The Black and Proud Show will feature artists from diverse backgrounds including the Malcolm X Drummers and Dancers, New Jersey based rapper Hassan Salaam, Nata’aska Hummingbird (of 3 Generations), and DC hometown favorites "13" the Poet and DJ Soyo spinning on the 1’s and 2’s . While there will be artists of many different genres – from salsa to hip hop, they will all be united through the common cause of promoting the struggle to make Africa a liberated and united nation.
The Black and Proud Show will be the opening night of a 3 day weekend for African Liberation Day (ALD)
– a conference the Uhuru Movement is holding on May 22-24 to raise awareness around the struggle African people around the world are involved in to achieve freedom and independence.
In addition to serving as a fundraiser for ALD, the Black and Proud Show will bridge the gap that has far too long existed between the African liberation struggle and the songs sung about it.
The ALD weekend will conclude with a grand finale performance on Sunday afternoon by Wise Intelligent of Poor Righteous Teachers
. The admission for the Black and Proud Show is $20. The ALD conference is $20 in advance and $30 at the door.
