In the world of fashion, black is the most celebrated, a seasonal favorite. Lately, a new trend has started calling white the new black. Designers are trying to give white the chance to storm over all the silhouettes just as its arch nemesis black has done with ease. This is a difficult transition.
White is not a forgiving color. Wearing it can make most figures appear larger, and that is not at the top of the request list. Couture’ designers like Tom Ford for Gucci and YSL (Yves Saint Laurent), have succeeded in creating looks in
which white as a color looks most radiant. However, his black garments are equally up to par.
This trend is also prevalent in music. Brittany Spears is Janet Jackson’s unintentional protege’. While Eminem claims that Red Man and 2pac are the rappers he has tried to emulate. The social scene of New York is a contradiction. The elusive white lounge spots and clubs play majority black music, but look at the blacks in their space with smug egotistical
expressions. This is also true in the categories of beauty. White women spend countless hours tanning to get darker, and inject fat in their body to create an unnatural luscious quality that is mimicking the black norm.
Getting back to the front of the issue, there will always be the little black dress. The perfect pair of black pumps, and a black tie event to wear them to. As soon as white can break out of its labor day limitations, then it can initiate competition with black.
