Johann Hari...

Up to two billion people around the world tuned in to watch the British royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, a story which has dominated TV news for weeks. The wedding buzz offers a chance to look at the monarchy, Britain’s domestic policy, and how its colonial legacy around the world affects foreign affairs today. While all eyes were on the wedding procession and the first kiss, Democracy Now! spoke with Johann Hari, a columnist at The Independent of London, who says the royal wedding frenzy should be an embarrassment to us all.

This was intentionally designed to stir the Anglo-Saxons into a patriotic frenzy.

I believe Britain will be involving themselves in a major world war soon enough.

Take a guess who will be on the business end of that conflagration...

I think there was more interest outside of the UK than in it. More and more people here either couldn't give a toss, or actively despise these people and what they represent. Not to say that many patriotic idiots weren't waving their union jacks around, but it was nothing like Diana's wedding back in the 80s. You can fool some of the people some of the time but you can't fool all the people all the time, especially when the people are broke as a joke and you're using their tax money to fund your extravagant lifestyle.
